Dirt Princess

Hey everyone & welcome back! This week I wanted to highlight a mini session that I did last weekend at a local NYOA series race. For those that don't know, NYOA is an AMA sanctioned Off-Road racing series that takes place in the woods/fields in Twin Tiers region of NY, more on that series in a different post. I met up with Cori on the evening before her race to capture the "Dirt Princess" side of her personality. Without the boots and the 4 wheeler you probably just see a cute little girl who you assume does t-ball or gymnastics or something geared more towards younger girls. But make no mistake, Cori is a serious competitor on the track which is mostly dominated by young boys.

Taking on the boys

Cori races in the 50cc Sport Limited Class in the 6th row (7 rows total). Starting in the back of field means she has to fight her way through traffic to earn a good position in the overall standings. On any given Sunday morning there are 40+ pee wee riders out on the track, less than half of those riders being female. But Cori doesn't let that stand in her way or intimidate her. In fact, in all 3 races so far this season Cori has won her class and has place in the top 25 overall. No easy feat coming from the 7th row.

Racing, not just for boys anymore

The coolest part about these Dirt Princess Mini sessions is that is shows both sides of the young female riders. It shows that you can look pretty, dress nice and still kick some butt! Over the past several years the female participation in our local NYOA series has grown an incredible amount, both in adult and youth competition. The Women's adult classes FINALLY have their own podium presentation after years of no recognition. And the youth female riders have their own lines in their races as well. Giving them the chance to experience the thrill of victory without having to line up against the boys, if they want. We also have youth & adult females that race outside of the women/girl classes and that is so awesome to watch. Whether you are out there racing as hard as you can gunning for that overall position or just out there having fun, we welcome you to come out and join us! And we will be right there to cheer you on!
